What you need to know:

  • A Citizen Advisory Committee made up of your neighbors spent 18 months developing and writing this ordinance in accordance to DEP Regulations.
  • Requires property owners to pump their septic system within one (1) year of the effective date of the ordinance.
  • If a property owner can prove that their septic tank has been pumped within four (4) years of the sixth month anniversary date of the effective date of the Ordinance, then the initial required pumping may be delayed to conform to the general four-year frequency requirement.

  • Only after sufficient notice to the property owner, the Sewage Enforcement Officer (SEO) is authorized to inspect any septic system provided that he/she has sufficient evidence that a malfunctioning on-lot sewage disposal system exists, such as a complaint from a neighbor, or where a malfunction can be easily observed from a public street or right-of-way.
  • Requires property owners to produce and submit to the SEO maintenance records and/or service receipts after receiving notice of a system malfunction.
  • The Ordinance was adopted by the Board of Supervisors at their March Regular Meeting, Wednesday March 12, 2008.
